Beauty Blender/Makeup sponge: How to clean them

Most frequently asked question nowadays is how to clean a beauty blender/ makeup sponge. 

Cleaning of beauty blender and sponges is very important as they soak up a lot of your product and if you don’t wash them, their efficiency will degrade and won’t give you desired results after sometime. Cleaning is also important as they are high on budget as well. We need to maintain them so that they should have a good shell life and won’t tamper. Don’t let them sit there with your other stuff for long; just wash them immediately after you are done with your makeup.

There are few tricks to clean the beauty blender sponge:

• Beauty blender liquid cleanser- They have a soy based formula that eradicate dirt from the sponge and makes it environment friendly as well.  Though they are high on budget, but they are made especially for makeup brushes and sponges cleansing. They are powerful enough to squeeze out all the stains and make their shell life last longer. Availability in India is limited, you can get it online from amazon.com. 
  

• Mild Bath Soap- One of the cost effective trick is use a mild soap (for example baby soap or you can take Dove also). First wash the sponge, try to squeeze it as much as you can then take the bar in one hand and stroke the sponge on it with to and fro motion. Squeeze the sponge after stroking on bar and then bring it under water; you will see that stains are coming out from the sponge. Again wash it and try one more time until you get a stainless sponge. I have used this trick and it worked quite well for me.

• Microwave- Take a glass bowl. Fill it half with water and put your sponge in it. Then put the bowl in microwave for less than half a minute; then take it out from microwave and wash the sponge. This trick also works well to get the stains out easily from the sponge. If the stains are still there take a soap bar and rub the sponge on it. It will works surely.
  

• Mild Body wash or liquid soap-  You can use mild liquid soap and body wash for cleaning. But if the sponge has lot of stains or kept for a long time. It may not give you best result. I suggest you to switch to a mild shampoo. 
  

• Mild Shampoo- You can use baby soap or shampoo to wash brushes and sponge with it. It does give you desired results. But don’t rub the brush or sponge harshly on anything otherwise they will use their original shape and functionality. Be gentle while cleaning them.
